Angela Winbush | The Real Thing

R&B music isn't gonna be quite the same soulfully without a talent so reflective of the spirit in madam Angela Winbush, you might as well turn the corner & forget it.

No piano chord, no dynamic beauty, charisma & charm, nobody....NOBODY brought you closer to love ballads the way Angela kissed your facial cheeks with a gift for music so profound, it would possibly be in our best interest to seek her out for an interview & ask for the best advice possible concerning the state of R&B music now & where does it need to go later.

She was & STILL IS 'The Real Thing'. "It's The Real Thing" was badd man.
Sista girl had the finesse, class, top quality lyrics, physique, cornerstone achievements that made a brotha like me stay glued to the TV set whenever BET heated up the sets with ANY of her music videos. ANY.

Warm up the coffee mugs, tea bags & hot tati.

For a split second Gorgeous new starlet for soul music Syleena Johnson almost looks like a twin sister of Angela's. They definitely, compassionately put it down on the mic in similar taste. But the benchmark set from Angela will always remain in concrete memory every time I turn over the back cover of a LP & it reads, "....Written, Produced, Arranged & Performed by Angela L. Winbush....".

Let me say that again: "....WRITTEN, PRODUCED, ARRANGED and PERFORMED".

9 songs unbelievable. Sophistication. Thank You Angela. Thank You.

When Angela rolled up in that hot red Ferrari, hair all 'wild' out', black leather 2 piece get up, sexy facial expressions, switching that stroll & then polish it all off in a orange mechanics garb in the video for 'Its The Real Thing'.....WHEW!!!! WHEW!

(Ok Marvin, times up...time to go to bed. Past your bedtime son. Go, hurry up. )

Before I go any further....did somebody say Angela's personnel was Gerald Albright, Nathan East (Fourplay), Paul Jackson Jr. (Artist & Jazz Guitarist), Tony Maiden (Did someone say Rufus with Chaka Khan??), Greg Phillinganes (No Questions asked) and of course former hubby Ronald Isley?

Kick in the jams after 'Its The Real Thing' with 'No More Tears' and 'Thank You Love' & we are on to something. The power duet teaming with Ronald Isley for 'Lay Your Troubles Down' was a classic, especially as I look back on my road warrior days bearing madd traffic on the 101 & 10 freeways in L.A.  listening to KDAY radio - Back in the day - playing this out of request several times. Numerous times party people. I used to call it 'traffic ice cream floats' 'cause the slower paced, meaningful R&B jams eased right into our tantrum filled, pee'd off impatient congested drive times on the freeway daily. And it felt good listening to Angela, Keith (Washington), Gerald (Levert) & anything in the late 80's hittin' solid for the love jams to cool us down - especially during those hot summer months.

Angela closed out the stereo presentation with the last four songs, 'Please Bring Your Love Back', 'Manage A Trois', 'I've Learned To Respect (The Power Of Love)' & 'I'll Never Be The Same'.

Arranged like a golden star. Unquestionably the best project recorded. Her debut album "Sharp" was fire too.

Let me stop right here. Thank You Ms. Winbush for dignifying the power of soul music. For being truly remarkable with your gift for composition, for being a true professional of your specialty and for being a humble & remarkable talent and template of beauty.

Thank You.

Peace,
Charles F. Sherard
