Bobby Glover | Bad Bobby Glover

I had to break this one out.

I sat on it for a minute, wondering what type of Funk I wanted to represent for the month, for the scene, for the Back In The Day Crew.

The majority of the worlds best Funk Listeners may know this, if not most of you: Bobby Glover was part of Roger Troutmans' brotherly soul funk team - before the making of the now Old School Funk Kings - Zapp. Yes, the group was called THE HUMAN BODY party people. From that thought, can you imagine some of the cuts produced by Roger on the album called "Bad Bobby Glover"?

You can turn this sucka up T.U.M.S. & get ready to jam on my expense. Find yourselves a handkerchief & find a spot to groove at will.

Bobby launched that hot blazin' album back in 1984 right after the big jam "Freedom" from the Human Body. He came correct, with assistance from Roger & his amazing 'talkbox' feature that would easily send the auto-tune product right back into the box. Want a little taste? Check out "So Mean" - the video below (removed by YouTube):

You know, this is some hot stuff. I wanted to cuss, but can't.

The album was a mixture of slow & mid-level, mind blowing productions. At some points of the music, you can hear Bobby himself on the Talkbox. However, it may have been best for him to stay behind the mike & let Roger do his thang. Slow joints, "It's My Turn", "Happy", "I Love You" (Maceo Parker on the sax) & "I Can't Stand The Pain" settled down the album.

But the partay got started when "So Mean", "What Kind Of Lady" & My Fav "Your Spell" (video) clips the volume control to the maximum level available. All speakers were activated by then. Catch my drift? Then feel the full power of the funk. Man, do i miss Roger Troutman.

Find this one players. Find it I said. You'll be glad you did. Your collection is in trouble if its not there. Trust Me.

Peace,
Charles F. Sherard

    Hey Charles,

I use to blast this album back in '84 ! It's a good album, one of Roger's best productions.

Another cut on this album I use to play alot was "Your Spell". Roger's son, Roger Jr. covered "Your Spell" on his 1989 Capital Records debut "Pinch Of Lynch" Hard as heck to find it. Thank God I have the CD !

    Great pick !

      Ran,

This was one of my favs on the sidelines. I was marinating the album until Big T dropped the line. He didn't know I already had this thing stored in my memory bank for review. Big Ups to you for keeping the funk alive. There's more to follow.

I shoulda had T play back "Your Spell" instead of "So Mean", but it doesn't matter.

    Hey All,
I'm not done yet. Zapp Troutman and I(Bad Bobby Glover) are collaborating on some new material that we plan to have out soon. Look for it, and I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

From one of Roger's and the Zapp band's #1 fans on the planet, this is some exciting news if this is true. I can't wait to hear the new music with Zapp featuring Bobby Glover. While we all still love and dearly miss Roger, I've seen the Zapp band in concert several times since Roger passed, and they keep getting better and better. Roger is surely looking down from heaven, proud of his brothers and the rest of the band, and smiling that his band and his fans are keeping his musical legacy alive. Keep funkin' and get that new music out soon!
