Chuckii Booker | Niice 'n Wild

Album Review: Chuckii Booker | Niice 'n Wiild
By Randy Holmes

The talented multi instrumentalist, producer having worked with a 'who's who' in music, songwriter, and oddly, overlooked at times. Yes, he's made hit records on the R&B side, but delivered songs that were overlooked on the Pop side. Songs recorded by Bette Midler, Diana Ross, and many others.

Chuckii Booker delivered this funk filled, ballad balanced project in 1992 on the Atlantic Records imprint, fueled by the R&B hit singe
"Games".

Every song on this album is fantastic! From a songwriting, musician, engineering perspective whether it be tracking, mixing, and the final "touch", mastering , this CD, for me,
BLEW ME AWAY!!!!

"Niice N' Wild", the second release following his 1989 debut "Chuckii", that contained the hit R&B single, "Turned Away". Co-written by Chuckii and session extraordinaire drummer/songwriter and singer in his own right, (Having recorded, or toured with, Jody Watley, EWF and several other notable artists), Mr. Donnell Spencer Jr. In addition, they've co-written another great track off this album, "Res Q Me". Dig this CD/cassette up whenever you get a moment.

It starts off with the bouncy and funky
"Spinnin".

"Love Is Medicine" very dark, sinister, funky, sorry to keep saying "funky" so much, that's the only way I know how to describe it. Heavy bass synths, bass drum kicked up, cool guitar parts, vocals all performed by Chuckii. Play very loud!

"Out Of The Dark" a track co-penned by Chuckii and Donnell. Uptempo, percussive, vocals, programming of synths, drums, all executed very well. A feel good song! Uplifting lyrics! One of my favorites.

"With All My Heart". You'll hear the trademark Chuckii Booker sound! That same sound he blessed Troop with as evidenced by their Top 10 R&B hit "Spread My Wings".

I could go on for days about this record, but trust me, give this one another listen, great for driving ! .. The ballad
"You Don't Know", the aforementioned "Games", "Soultrilogy", the funky album title track "Niice N' Wild", and another great ballad, "I Should Haved Loved You", demanded I place this project in my Top 10 favorite albums of all time.

Happy Listening!
