Yarbrough & Peoples | Guilty

At a time when I must reconsider some of the best R&B music I listened to back in my timezone, I must pullout the classic Yarbrough & Peoples, "Guilty" album. It was one of the most complete, comprehensive set of jams & feel good music I thought every T.U.M.S. reader should have within arms reach & know about. Whether it be by means of getting it on iTunes, Amazon, a nearby Record Store, whatever. Find it online somewhere. This is the real stuff.

Calvin & Alissa simply 'didn't stop' the music after their mainstream hit maker "Don't Stop The Music". And Lonnie Simmons, Executive Producer for the GAP Band & now this, made sure of that. With help in the vocals section from his Brother in R&B Charlie Wilson, Jimmy Hamilton, Maurice Hayes, Maxine & Julia Waters & others, when you drop both sides for playback, you'll get drenched with R&B juice so mellowy/funky, it will be hard to stop the record from spinning.

Take for example, the lead track "Guilty". The mega jam that sat up the playback. Then "I Wouldn't Lie" sounded like a S.O.S. Band Greatest Hits gem, but proudly represented by Y&P. After that, the sole reason for the vinyl to spin on the player, well... just another reason why: "Wrapped Around Your Finger". Scene, this was one of the hardest to 'find out', 'who was this?' jams I had ever wanted to know who sang it. Was it a single? This was the serious cut on the album (IMO) & possibly the greatest undiscovered checkerflag's ever waved!

Do you hear the cowbell's? The rolling percussions/beats? The slow tranced, cha-cha get up for the evening or daylight savings zone feel? The lyrical sing-it-to-ya-love pull? The Kareoke maker in the happening?

The album produced several other cruisin' down the blvd treats like, "Anytime", "I'll Give Anything To Have You Back" & "Everything". A monumental keepsake that simply makes R&B music shine whenever we need to go back a little bit & play for some or more while entertaining a house full of guests. And you know, I left my jokes out of this review about Marvin. He's probably about to blow up my email to get a copy this album. Or he may have it already. He knows just like everyone else...He should have it.

Get it At Amazon...

Peace,
Charles
