The Jacksons - Destiny

C'mon...stop it. Please.
What's this I hear that a re-release of one of the greatest R&B albums in R&B culture is coming back with additional remixes? I'm talking about "Destiny" from Michael Jackson & his brothers - The Jacksons.
The album should be untouched. Just like the rest of them. Didn't we learn something from the remixes of Mike J's "Thriller"?
Okay. What EVER you do, please do not screw up the massive all night footstompin', lights dimmed to the Disc Jockey, flowin the groove punchline mamajammin "Shake Your Body Down To The Ground". Not only was that cut off the got darn chain, but it set the standard for minutes in tracks produced on record. Back then when it meant something to go more than 6 minutes for a hot jam. Uh, huh. That's right.
And speaking of that song, I indulged myself in a lengthy conversation with some players of mine recently about what goes down in the studio during the actual recording of some of these lengthy, 12" long version jams. In "Shake Your Body Down (To The Ground)", it was clear: whoever the musicians was hanging out with Mike that night came to partay. I said..'partay'...
Because the funk thundering from the keyboard player (was that Greg Phillinganes?) must've made everyone else look at him and said, 'heh man, are you alright?'. The percussion, drum players & so on were ready to go home that day/night, you see. But the keyboardist was sweating his butt off & needed to get that urging, relentless stress off his fingertips. My old school partners in crime - Marvin & T, what do you know about that?
Music should go the distance. If it makes you move, than please keep the groove. That's my motto.
While Marv was too busy trying to strike up a conversation with one of the ladies in the hallway that day (She dissed him by the way), me & everyone else, including Mike J. was startled. That instrumental backlash after Mike stepped away from the microphone, grabbed everybody & we are sure the studio technicians were bobbin their heads too, saying, 'uh, uh, y'all don't stop! Keep that mutha goin' now!"
And don't forget about "Blame It On The Boogie" & "Things I Do For You". Lord have mercy, that was off the click too!
I wanna see & hear everyone's response to the release. Maybe I could be wrong, but according to my sources, there's a couple of remixes on the new version. Coming out this January. Do youselves a favor and play the old record back one more time. Skip to "Shake your body down...' & see what I am talking about. PLAY THE WHOLE SONG BACK - ALL 8 MINUTES OF IT.
Peace
