The Whispers - Open Up Your Love

That disco glitter ball was hi-flashin' a brotha the night I stretched out my bell bottoms/slacks, trying to shake a leg to the music of Walter & Wallace (Scotty) Scott & The Whispers Marvin, T & The Scene. The only scene I know of that keeps it real & fresh. This back in the day page is about to be hi-jacked up & until Christmas & New Years from yours truly. Here comes some stuff (reviews) I had for you guys on reserve, starting 1st with The Whispers.

And marvin, you probably was a wall-flower. Holdin' up the side of the entrance door watching all of our beautiful women come in & cut a rug on the dancefloor to The Whispers. Or maybe you were like Isaac from the 'Love Boat' trying to get your serve in on a lady passing you by. Talking about a flashback.

Back in 1976, I use to sport those same bell-bottoms with a crease to go into my commodore collar'd shirt, button down polyester 3 piece suit. You better come out to play when The Whispers showed up at the party!! Uh..Uh - don't try to act like you don't know Marv. When they came in on the train (Soul Train), all passengers betta come ready to board up & go for that fantastic voyage. Hurry up before you lose a seat!

The Whispers was the epitome of a group, a group unmatched by any R&B group that swung bats for fast jammin' grooves & magnificent slow drag jams back in the 70's & 80's. Those slow drags that made you carry a mint in your front pocket & kept your mustache/beard well shaved. Poppin' off the fresh fragrance of cologne (Marv wore Old Spice...you know you did man. Don't fib. I heard some whistling noise while I read some of your reviews), as you perfected the stroll...hippin with it. Like you are walkin down some sort of catwalk or something. Some of you guys know what I am talking about. In keeping your game tight.

One of my fav's was the "Open Up Your Love" LP on Soul Train Records from 1977. Don Cornelius & Griffey Entertainment kept the soul game tight & reserved for us. Full of essence & showmanship, came The Whispers & man did they bring it on. They were awesome man. I cannot remember a time in this current generation where you had 5 guys satisfy both sides of a grooveline so perfectly & profound. Pledging allegiance to love. These brothas unlocked the door to the fantasy dept to such slow jams like "Chocolate Girl", "Open Up Your Love", "I'm Gonna Make You My Wife" (heh T, didn't that song get played back on the movie 'Waiting To Exhale'?). Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't "You Are Number One" the ultimate classic love jam? Break out the cassettes old school troopers if you haven't discovered the greatest hits slow jams vol. 1 & 2 from The Whispers yet.

"You Are Number One" broke out the champagne on ice. It made me kick all the fellas out of my apt., clean up the crib, straighten up the pillows on the couch, & make a very important phone call. Create the element of love & soul for my lady, you know?

If you are a fan, and I mean a big fan of The Whispers, then know for a fact they have records galore. And each one of them carried the same fire & desire after each one. Spray painting art frames of pure mesmerizing compositions, with the twin brothers songwriting the majority of them. I ask you, which one of The Whispers albums was your favorite?

Concert? The Whispers illuminates any given stage or conference room. Please be sure to give them plenty of space so they can prance & sophisticate the night.

I should've had these guys on the Back In The Day page a long time ago, since my 1st review.

Peace, I got more.
