Cameo never really had a problem distinguishing themselves with that organic, R&B funk stance to their rhythms. You knew the sounds & excitement of Cameo the minute Larry Blackmon's trademarked shout out "OOOWWWW" can be heard from blocks away. The eclectic wardrobes in all their videos, the complete improvisation to the urban R&B groove back in 1985, to this album, quickly suggested their unique style, setting apart Cameo from the rest of the super supreme R&B groups of that heyday. I can only imagine what it would be like if these cats were to actually stomp the playground in this generation with those extraordinary productions.
Take for example "Attack Me With Your Love" & "Single Life". All I know is back then, the radio control got blasted. "Single Life" was much more an expression of my right to mack. Highlight the stroke of my ego & go rap to the ladies because I'm living the high life!!! Cameo straighten all of that out by supplying the theme music to my bio from the mid-late 80's. Who would argue that? Huh?
"Attack Me With Your Love" was on fire. And the music video to it wasted no time illustrating Cameo's talents as I described above. Dig it.
As for the album, it didn't matter to me what the rest sounded like. I was taken from songs 1 & 2. Although I admit, the rap to "Urban Warrior" brings back a memory or too. The beat was off & smokin'. Melvin Wells cracked the windpipe (sax) with his solo. Songs "A Good-Bye" & "I've Got Your Image" wasn't bad. However, "Attack Me With Your Love" & "Single Life" was basically the whole album to me.
The Urban Music Scene.com has it going on.
