Breakin' - The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

"....Ain't No Stoppin Us...No Stoppin'!
No One Does It Betta!!...."

Like The Urban Music Scene.com! And this Soundtrack from 1984!

That opening anthem, "Breakin'...Ain't No Stoppin' Us", performed by Ollie & Jerry to lead off a classic soundtrack for another dance movie for the ages, got reached for the Back In The Day page! No Problem!

Too many tracks off this supreme centerpiece should get the honorable mention! So many memories flies out to the West Coast players (And East) from listening to this project, that sometimes I slip on the DVD without moments notice. At times, I would drop this in on the youth who came over to the birthday parties, the cats after another 'Boxing party' &/or just for the sake of good times!

Track Listing:
~ Breakin'....There's No Stoppin' Us
~ Freakshow On The Dance Floor
~ Body Work
~ 99 1/2
~ Showdown
~ Heart Of The Beat
~ Street People
~ Cut It
~ Ain't Nobody
~ Reckless

"Boogaloo Shrimp", "Shabba Doo" & Lucinda Dickey were introduced as the primary dancers on the verge of 'breakin' something out from the streets of Venice Beach/L.A. Cool talent. But please do not forget the many, various dancers who competed against & danced with them, as well as their own talents. The quadraplegic break dancer who gave, possibly, the best dance performance out of the whole film - to the undercover jam "Body Work" from group Hot Streak;.....to the ultimate showdown with & possibly one of the finest 'poppers' in breakin' - StreetName/Handle: "Pop-N-Taco". The Latin Brotha who exquisitely displayed the nemesis, 'electro rock' crew, through eye-poppin, body vibratin', moves & later got showcased on R&B lady group Klymaxx's hit/video "Meeting In The Ladies Room". YEAH!

"Freakshow On The Dance Floor" by the Bar-Kays is an automatic jam, no matter how many times that track is featured on a soundtrack, their own album, a live concert, an old school dance party, your backyard party, your 30 year reunion, WHATEVER! Settled! A no brainer by all means!; "Ain't Nobody" by Chaka Khan, the comeback blessing of 2007 with her "Funk This" album, is without a doubt, one of the most replayed tracks on modern radio & satellite stations in the universe. Who can't help but to remember 'Boogaloo Shrimp' sliding into the video score with his memorable 'armwave' move??; Ice T. The Rap/Hip Hop artist, now a great big screen actor, had his presence felt on the stage when he dropped "Reckless" on all of ya'll! Him & Chris "The Glove" Taylor! YEAH!

"99 1/2" by Carol Lynn Townes, was another sleeper with a touch of memory...strong groove.

The cut I wanted to see someone come back to touch musically, whether it be Jazz, R&B or whatever...was "Street People". The track that brought everyone, all dancers - ballet or breakers, together, at the end of the movie. The rhythm to the beat was sick! It carried a very innocent, attractive theme. A pattern of exitement reminiscent to the earlier Janet Jackson, Debarge recordings. "Street People.......Happening With A Groove,.......Street Party.....Making Your Body Move!!!". Performed by Fire Fox (Paulette McWilliams & Toi Overton). Definitely my favorite! YEAH!

Unforgettable! Of course, a part 2 of the movie & soundtrack came out, but couldn't touch the original, IMO. Favorites from the Old School Break Dancing flicks, "Beat Street" & "Wild Style" had their recordings too. Let's see....

Next......"Beat Street"!
And while we are at it, its about that time to break ya'll off something proper! Remember the master jam "Tour De France"??? Yeah!! And Boogaloo Shrimp breaks it on down!! Check it!!

Great soundtrack, though it is still missing a track. That being Michael Ender, Steven Elowe and Doug Lunn's "Lil' Lockers".

The song is an instrumental that plays when Boogaloo Shrimp is teaching the little kids how to lock. Actually, the soundtrack is very skimpy, as most official releases are, since it doesn't contain all of the songs. Here is the real track listing, in play order like my own:

        01) Ollie and Jerry - Breakin'...There's No Stoppin' Us
        02) Bar-Kays - Freakshow On The Dance Floor
        03) Al Jarreau - Boogie Down
        04) Kraftwerk - Tour De France (Instrumental)
        05) Chris 'The Glove' Taylor - Reckless (Instrumental)
        06) Reflex - Cut It
        07) Ice-T and Chris 'The Glove' Taylor - Tibetan Jam
        08) Ollie and Jerry - Showdown (Instrumental)
        09) Rufus and Chaka Khan - Ain't Nobody (Who Does It Better)
        10) The Art Of Noise - Beat Box
        11) Ice-T and Chris 'The Glove' Taylor - Reckless
        13) Hot Streak - Body Work
        14) Carol Lynn Townes - 99 1-2
        15) Ollie and Jerry - Breakin'...There's No Stopping Us (Instrumental)
        16) Fire Fox - Street People
        17) 3V - Heart Of The Beat
        18) Ice-T and Chris 'The Glove' Taylor - Breakin'

Track 12, which I left a hole for, would be 'Lil Lockers' instrumental.

Another track that is missing, which I think was 2nd to "Street People", was the track Ice-T did in the club, with the mix of rap, scratch, and metal. I don't know the name, but I wish I could find it.

That would be "Go Off" from the second film, Electric Boogaloo. I ripped it from the film and made an excellent MP3 version of it. Edited out all the actor dialog cut-ins. Came out great. If you desire a copy, write me at phaota1@fastmail.fm
