Najee - Najee's Theme

"YES!!!"
Straight from the offset of the opening vocals to "Feel So Good To Me", the jazz world had to open up & embrace a swift change in the urban jazz movement when Najee arrived to the scene! Without catching a breath, this project garnered a lot of attention in both the Contemporary Jazz game as well as in the R&B community. For when Najee touched "Sweet Love", a gem from Anita Baker, most would then expect that Najee would take off where George Howard & Grover Washington had left the stage. And with those 2 players still circulating into the minds of jazz purists comparing notes over notes to see what young lion out there can take the torch & run with it, Najee continued on with impressive albums for years down the road after 1986.
The debut of "Najee's Theme" ultimately lead to platinum status. Of the 9 track collection, My favorite easliy rests on "Betcha Don't Know", which also rec'd lots of video airplay on many cable channels & providers. In fact, at times, BETj channel's "Video Soul" feat Donnie Simpson & Sherry Carter would bring back the memory of the video on their show!

Today, Najee is still enjoying phenomenal success as a jazz artist, as he placed a #1 contemporary jazz - BillBoard magazines charting of his latest "Rising Sun", which is also among our current reviews on The Urban Music Scene. I hope he continues his string of breakthrough contemporary jazz releases, as well as keeping some tracks from the Urban side fresh off the heels like his predeccesors. Knowingly enough, The cat got MADD SKILLS!
