Soul Providers | Smooth Urban Grooves

The Soul Providers!

A unique name for a group of players many of you have already known! This project was a brainchild from the Godfather of the New Urban Jazz Radio Network/Piano Extraordanaire Mr. Bob Baldwin, who also came to produce & arrange the majority of these hip-hop/R&B tracks.

This offering seems to spawn off the previous albums done by the Hidden Beach team & Shanachie's series of urban covers. The difference, of course, lies into how the listener will accept how these players recreated the mixes.

The Personnel:

  • -- Bob Baldwin (Keyboards, Bass, Drum/Persussion)
  • -- Dave Mann (Sax)
  • -- Larry Devore (Guitar)
  • -- Will Fulton (Guitar)
  • -- Dennis Johnson (Drum Programming)
  • -- Probe (Drum Programming)
  • -- B-Roc (Drum Programming)
  • -- Arnold Mischkulnig (Drum Programming)
  • -- Barry Danielian (Trumpet)
  • -- Nelson Rangel (Sax)
  • -- Marion Meadows (Sax)
The tracks actually speak for themselves. Each one were previous R&B/Hip Hop hits. Its very reminiscent to every Hidden Beach/Shanachie recording, except this one carries a little bit more 'bottom' (bass). You may want to re-adjust your subwoofer for this one playas, because these grooves are gonna rock your spot!

Selections:

  • -- Encore
  • -- Through The Wire
  • -- Ordinary People
  • -- Let Me Love You
  • -- We Belong Together
  • -- Lovers & Friends
  • -- Hate It Or Love It
  • -- Charlene
  • -- Diary
  • -- My Place
  • -- 21 Questions
Tasteful solos by Marion, Nelson & Larry were felt alongside, yours truly - Mr. Baldwin throughout the course of this disc. A couple of tracks did stand out to me: "Let Me Love You" & "My Place" had interchangable arrangements done to them & thats the quality of production I appreciated to those compositions & more! Not to mention how the melodies seemed to stick after each song, one by one, through the course of rotations.....

The disc has a strong funk in its bassline to the majority of cuts. Its definitely for those who love getting the feel for the subwoofer in those stereo systems out there!!

There were some tracks out in the Hip-Hop/R&B world that I wished they would have covered, but these will have to do for now. Maybe down the line, we'll see another offering in the whirlwind to compliment our requests!

Also, Check out the liner notes from Mr. Baldwin. There's some very interesting words shared into how this album came about!

Stay Cool....

Terrill J. Hanna
